DEF : A community of practice (CoP) is a group of people who share a common concern, a set of
problems, or an interest in a topic and who come together to fulfill both individual and group goals.
DEF : The term STS was coined by Trist and colleagues in the Tavistock Institute in London in the
1950s and later taken up by Klein to recognise the interaction between technical and social factors in
organisations. When trying to change a system STS would stress the need to consider the technical and
social factors and the impact of the change on other aspects of the system.
DEF : STS analysis involves studying the dynamic interconnectedness of elements of the system at
different levels, such as team, processes, and information and knowledge.
